Hanna Golan - About the Author
Hanna Golan was born in post-World War II Poland to Michael and Laja Szydlowski, two survivors who met after having been liberated from the atrocities of the Holocaust. As they were much too weary and well beyond their prime, Hanna was their only child. Having lost everything imaginable in life — parents, siblings, previous spouses, children, aunts, uncles, cousins, friend and property — they avidly protected and doted over their precocious little girl, who was their personal proof and affirmation for the future of humanity.

As the political and social situation worsened for Jews in Poland, the three emigrated to Israel, their ancestral promised land. Due to Laja’s failing health six years later, the three once again uprooted themselves and moved to Los Angeles, California.

Hanna acclimated rather quickly to her new environment in Los Angeles, and thrived. She graduated high school with honors and was a permanent fixture on the dean’s list throughout her college years at the University of California in Los Angeles. In spite of it all, she never forgot her roots and returning to Israel was her ultimate goal. Her graduate work in biochemistry and mathematics was completed at the Weismann Institute of Science in Rehovot and at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Shortly after earning her two MSc. degrees, Hanna married a native Israeli who fathered her two adorable little girls.

Hanna currently lives on the outskirts of Los Angeles, and so do her two grown daughters.
